Earthsong flutes
Earthsong flutes

I have been playing Craig Sixbears flutes since day one of his journey from novice flute

maker to master craftsman.  I own over a dozen of his flutes.  I have

purchased many for my personal use and have also gifted Earthsong Flutes to those

who I think are, and deserve something special.

My last three albums, Solaris, Spirit Journey and Homeland Security have featured his

flutes extensively.  I am certain it is the beauty of their clarity, tone and voice

that helped me achieve a Native American Music Awards (NAMMY) award nomination for

SPIRIT JOURNEY as Best New World Recording of 2006, and for HOMELAND

SECURITY as best New Age Recording of 2008.

I have and will continue to recommend Sixbears-made flutes to anyone who wants to

explore the spirit realm of the American Indian Flute.  In fact I am eagerly

anticipating my next new EARTHSONG flute.

"It's always notable when a flute maker finds a voice of his own, Craig has found that.

The flute I have from him is responsive, sweet, and smooth. I tease that it plays like butter,

but it's true. I personally love my flute from Craig, it's among the few chosen performance

flutes that I travel and record with."

Dear Craig,

Your flutes captured all of my senses immediately:
I saw:  beautiful wood crafted from skilled hands
I smelt:  the sweetness of cedar
I felt:  the wood, sanded to liquid smoothness
I heard:  the dulcet and haunting tones sing out from a simple scale exercise
I tasted:  the sweetness of my heart song as it rose from deep within me, awakened from its deep slumber.

From a musical instrument perspective, the Native American Flute has proven to me that for no other reason than a simple desire to play, it can be done - with ease.  It asks for no prior musical training or a need to know how to read music. It simply asks you to play from the heart.. though a little bit of finger co-ordination helps too.  From a healing perspective, the journey has been nothing short of profound.  So thank you, Craig.  Your passion for and masterful craftsmanship of your Native American Flutes are certainly a gift.

I went to my first flute circle expecting to listen, not play! I came away that night realizing 3 things – that I did not require any special skills to play Native American Flute; that I would be listened to and assisted respectfully for my efforts and, most significantly, that the sounds of the flutes resonate with my heart. Almost one year later, I have two of Six Bears’ NA Flutes and play often. Playing Six Bears’ flutes has given and continues to give me much joy, provides healing through release of grief and sadness, gives voice to my heart and connects me with others. It is a gift to have met him.
