Earthsong flutes are handmade by Craig (Sixbears) in the traditional way, bored from two pieces of wood and then glued back together again. The volume, fipple and finger holes are burnt out with hot rods.

Each Earthsong flute is shaped by hand using spoke shave planes, not turned on a lathe. This interaction is an important part of the flute making process. Working with the wood in this fashion allows Craig to really get to know the wood he's working with and how eventually, the spirit of the flute would like to be heard.

Each flute is oiled inside and out with pure Tung oil that penetrates the wood and produces on the outside of the flute a soft and luscious look and feel.
To ensure protection, finishes are applied to the flute. A hard shellac is applied to the outside and a special formula to seal the inside of the mouthpiece chamber to create a barrier of protection against wet-out. Each flute is checked over to ensure the removal of any obstructions in the bore that will effect the quality of sound.
The Native American flute is tuned to a minor pentatonic scale. Earthsong Flutes are tuned in the woodland style of six hole tuning. All Earthsong Flutes are tuned to six hole tuning ( except keys above high D minor which are five hole tuned).
Each flute is tuned at a temperature of 22-23 degrees celsius (70 degrees F) to ensure, perfect pitch. Of course this is a tricky thing, due to the difference in playing environments (eg. cold, hot, indoors, outdoors), so remember to warm up your flute before playing!
All Earthsong flutes come with instruction sheet & protective fleece bag.
"I have spent many years focused on the finer details of flute making. responsiveness in a flute is everything.... I believe a flute should function and play as if you were breathing: very effortless, natural AND responsive."
